Every Region To Benefit From ‘BIG PUSH’ Programme – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that his government’s flagship Big Push Infrastructure Programme will deliver equitable development across all 16 regions of Ghana, ensuring each region receives its fair share of road projects.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Afienya, Greater Accra, Mahama said the programme is designed to modernise Ghana’s road network, enhance inter-regional connectivity, and unlock new economic opportunities.

“Since January 7, we have been designing road projects for the entire country. The Big Push covers all 16 regions, and every region will benefit from it,” Mahama emphasised.

He outlined the programme’s priorities, beginning with the construction of roads linking regional capitals to make travel easier and strengthen national cohesion.

“Our first priority was to connect one regional capital to another. Travelling from Accra to Ho or Accra to Cape Coast should be smooth and convenient,” he explained.

The second phase, Mahama noted, will focus on roads linking district capitals to improve local accessibility. “We have 261 districts, and we believe neighbouring districts should have good roads connecting them,” he added.

He further stressed that the programme will prioritise roads in food-producing areas and industrial hubs. “We identified all major food-producing regions, assessed their roads, and included them in the Big Push. This initiative is a key driver of Ghana’s economic transformation,” Mahama said.
